Golf Foundation’s Unleash Your Drive in Schools Campaign Reaches 24,000 Young People
The Golf Foundation’s Unleash Your Drive in Schools campaign is making a significant impact on the mental wellbeing of young people across the UK. With over 24,000 primary school pupils in 800 schools already benefiting from the program, the initiative is gaining momentum and reaching a wider audience.
Thanks to funding from partners and individual donations, the campaign has been able to offer fully funded support to 60 schools in 2024 alone. The recent ‘Play In May’ campaign raised over £15,000 to support the mental toughness training provided through the program.
The Unleash Your Drive in Schools initiative, launched in September 2023, is led by Golf Foundation President Nick Dougherty and aims to introduce young people to golf as a way to improve their mental wellbeing. The program uses specially adapted Golfway equipment and digital resources to teach fun and inclusive games with mental toughness tools embedded throughout.
Early studies have shown a 19% rise in mental wellbeing among participants, with improvements in concentration, confidence, emotional control, and determination. The Golf Foundation is committed to providing support to schools without financial barriers, and the success of the initiative has been bolstered by the support of partners, including professional golfers Nick Dougherty and Tommy Fleetwood.
