Trump favorite Leora Levy ousted from RNC seat in Connecticut

Greenwich Rainmaker Leora R. Levy Loses RNC Seat in Connecticut

The recent Republican National Committee election in Connecticut has caused quite a stir, with Leora R. Levy losing her seat to Annalisa Stravato in a closely contested battle. The election, which saw Stravato emerge victorious, highlighted the divisions within the state party as it struggles to make an impact in federal elections.

Levy, who was once Donald J. Trump’s choice for an ambassadorship and a nominee for U.S. Senate, faced off against Stravato, an early Trump supporter and former vice chair of the Connecticut Republican Party. Despite both women pledging their support to Trump, the fight seemed to be more about personal ambitions than loyalty to the former president.

The election result was seen as a way to move past the bitter 2022 Republican primary for U.S. Senate, where Levy defeated the party-endorsed favorite, Themis Klarides. Klarides, who acknowledged not voting for Trump in 2020, came to witness Stravato’s win and offered her congratulations.

The conflict between Levy’s personal ambitions and her responsibilities as an RNC member was cited as a major factor in her defeat, with complaints that she had refused to share fundraising contacts with other candidates. Stravato emphasized the need for unity within the party and stated that Trump was not an issue, as they would unite behind him for the greater good of Connecticut.

The vote, which saw Stravato win by a narrow margin, reflected a desire to move past the bad feelings of 2022 and focus on the upcoming elections. The party is currently focusing its resources on key races, including the 5th Congressional District race and the challenge against U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy.

Overall, the RNC election in Connecticut has highlighted the internal struggles and shifting dynamics within the state party as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
