Balancing Reality Woes and Olympic Triumphs: Inside NBCU’s Legal Chief’s Busy Schedule

Kimberley Harris: From the White House to NBCUniversal – A Legal Journey

Kimberley Harris, the head of NBCUniversal’s legal department, has had quite the journey to her current position. Starting as an associate at Davis Polk, she eventually found herself working in the White House Counsel’s Office under former President Barack Obama. This experience, she says, was excellent preparation for her role at NBCU, where she oversees legal matters for the company’s various businesses.

Harris’s time in the White House taught her the importance of working under public scrutiny, a skill that has served her well in the media industry. Last year, she and her team navigated high-profile lawsuits and strikes in Hollywood, and this year they are focused on guiding the company through new initiatives, such as launching theme parks and preparing for NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Despite the challenges ahead, Harris is confident in her ability to identify and manage risks for NBCU. She may not approach her job like the slick and reckless Harvey Specter from “Suits,” but her dedication to her work and her team’s excitement for the future projects at NBCU show that she is more than capable of handling whatever comes their way.
