Delhi High Court Denies Bail to Former PFI Chairman E Abubacker Under UAPA

The Delhi High Court has made a significant decision in the case involving former Popular Front of India (PFI) chairman E Abubacker. The court denied bail to Abubacker in a case registered against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) leading the investigation.

A bench of justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain delivered the verdict, stating that Abubacker, who was arrested during the crackdown on the banned PFI last year, will not be granted bail. Senior advocate Nitya Ramakrishna, representing Abubacker, argued that there was insufficient evidence against her client to sustain the case. She also highlighted Abubacker’s age, being over 70, and his health conditions as a cancer survivor battling Parkinson’s disease.

On the other hand, the NIA’s counsel presented a different perspective, claiming that there was substantial evidence indicating that camps were organized to train PFI members for illegal activities. The counsel also mentioned multiple cases against Abubacker and expressed concerns that no one would testify against him if he were released. The NIA stated that Abubacker is currently receiving medical treatment in jail for various ailments.

This decision by the Delhi High Court has sparked discussions and debates surrounding the case and the activities of the PFI. The denial of bail to Abubacker has raised questions about the evidence presented and the implications for the ongoing investigation. As the legal proceedings continue, the outcome of this case will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences.
