Indian PM Modi condemns attack on ‘friend’ Trump
The recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has sent shockwaves around the world, with leaders from various countries expressing their concern and condemnation of the violent act. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who shared a close relationship with Trump, took to social media to express his dismay over the incident.
During Trump’s visit to India in 2020, Modi and Trump shared a warm camaraderie, with the two leaders even holding hands and praising each other in front of a massive crowd in Gujarat. Modi’s post on social media read, “Deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump. Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery.”
The news of the assassination attempt has also led to a halt in the frenzied Democratic effort to replace President Joe Biden, as many Democrats believe that the incident has shifted the focus away from any potential changes in leadership. French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also joined in condemning the violence and expressing their support for Trump’s recovery.
Meanwhile, the FBI has identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Pennsylvania, and investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing. Photos of the shooter wearing merchandise promoting a popular firearms YouTube channel have also surfaced, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
As the world waits for more details to emerge from the investigation, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of democracy and the need to stand against violence in all its forms.
