Syria’s Defence Ministry Condemns Israeli Air Strike that Killed Girl and Wounded Civilians
Syria’s Defence Ministry has reported that an Israeli air strike on Wednesday resulted in the death of a young girl and the injury of 10 civilians on the coast. Additionally, a war monitor has stated that another raid killed three pro-Hezbollah fighters.
According to the ministry statement, the Israeli attack targeted a central site and a residential building in Baniyas city in the coastal region. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor reported that the girl was killed and 20 civilians were wounded in the strike.
Furthermore, the Observatory mentioned that the Israeli strike in central Syria killed three Syrian fighters who were working with Lebanon’s Hezbollah group. The monitor stated that the strike targeted a military site in the eastern countryside of Homs.
This incident comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, with Israel rarely commenting on individual strikes in Syria but consistently expressing its stance against Iran’s presence in the area. Israel has conducted numerous strikes in Syria since the civil war began in 2011, primarily targeting army positions and Iran-backed fighters, including those from Hezbollah.
The conflict in Syria has resulted in the loss of over half a million lives and the displacement of millions more since it began. The situation remains volatile, with ongoing clashes and air strikes adding to the already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.
