Celebrating Excellence: Franciscan Health Nurses and Staff Honored during Nurses Week

Franciscan Health nurses and staff members in Lake County were recently recognized for their outstanding contributions during national Nurses Week in May. The annual awards ceremony honored individuals who have gone above and beyond in their roles at Franciscan Health hospitals.

Among the recipients of the prestigious awards were Michelle Resendez, who received the Nightingale Award, and Brikalaya Craig, who received the Lantern Award. Other notable winners included Karli Chocholek, Marnie Wright, Eddy Piaseczny, Lori Hatalla, Alyson Cooper, Nichole Misiak, Geb Bugia, and Kathy Garcia.

In addition to the recognition of their hard work and dedication, the nurses and staff members were commended for their exceptional patient care and commitment to excellence in their respective roles.

Meanwhile, the Black Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Indiana is gearing up for its annual convention on June 27 at Indiana University Northwest’s Savannah Center in Gary. The event will feature panel discussions on small business resources, minority contract readiness, and procurement opportunities, providing valuable insights and networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and business owners.

In other news, Valparaiso University has been awarded funding for six space grant projects, allowing students to engage in real-world research and exploration of issues related to space. The university’s commitment to leadership and public service has also been recognized with the prestigious Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose.

Lastly, Franciscan Health is hosting a free Coping with Chemo webinar on June 26, aimed at helping cancer patients manage the mental side effects of chemotherapy treatment. The webinar will provide valuable strategies for coping with changes to memory, concentration, and focus during and after chemotherapy.
