Stony Brook Film Festival Returns to Staller Center for the Arts

The Stony Brook Film Festival is set to make a grand return to the university’s Staller Center for the Arts this summer, running from July 18 through July 27. Now in its 29th year, the festival is proudly sponsored by Island Federal Credit Union, with additional support from Campolo, Middleton & McCormick, Suffolk County, Altice Media, and WLIW21.

Featuring a lineup of 36 feature and short films from 19 different countries, the festival promises to showcase a diverse range of cinematic talent. While the full schedule won’t be unveiled until June 12, it has been revealed that nine of the films are from festival alumni, highlighting the importance of festivals in helping filmmakers gain exposure and feedback for their work.

Excitement is already building for the opening and closing night films, both of which are U.S. premieres. The festival will kick off with “The Blond Boy from the Casbah” from France, a captivating tale of self-discovery and nostalgia. The closing night will feature “One Million Minutes” from Germany, marking the directorial debut of Christopher Doll and starring the talented Karoline Herfurth.

Attendees can look forward to a Q&A session with Herfurth and Doll following the screening of “One Million Minutes,” as well as an award ceremony and closing night party. Early bird passes are currently available at discounted rates until June 10, making it the perfect time to secure your spot at this exciting event. Stay tuned for more updates on the festival schedule and be sure not to miss out on this celebration of international cinema.
