What comes next as the jury deliberates in Trump’s hush money case?

Jury Deliberations Begin in Donald Trump’s Hush Money Trial

The jury deliberations have begun in the hush money trial of former U.S. President Donald Trump, marking a pivotal moment in the case that has captivated the nation. After nearly two dozen witnesses and 16 days of testimony, the seven-man, five-woman panel is now tasked with deciding Trump’s fate on 34 felony counts of falsifying his company’s records.

Prosecutors allege that Trump falsified the records to conceal reimbursements to his former lawyer Michael Cohen, who paid porn actor Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with Trump. The former president has pleaded not guilty, denying any wrongdoing and arguing that the payments were legitimate legal expenses.

The jury must now determine whether Trump intentionally violated state laws in his efforts to influence the 2016 election. They have three possible unlawful acts to consider, including violations of campaign finance laws and falsification of business records.

Deliberations will take place behind closed doors, with jurors receiving detailed instructions on the relevant laws in the case. While the discussions are secret, jurors can communicate with the judge through notes delivered by a court officer.

As the jury deliberates, Trump must remain in the courthouse but is not required to be in the courtroom itself. The length of deliberations is uncertain, with no limit on how many days they can continue.

If a verdict is reached, the jury will notify the judge, who will then announce the decision in court. If no verdict is reached, the judge may provide further instructions to encourage the jury to reach a consensus.

The outcome of the trial will have significant implications for Trump and his political future, making the jury’s decision a highly anticipated moment in the legal and political world.
