What is causing the hashtag ‘All Eyes on Rafah’ to trend?

Recent Developments in the Conflict in Rafah: Israeli Airstrike Kills 45 Civilians

The recent Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in Rafah has left at least 45 people dead and nearly 250 injured, sparking international condemnation. This tragic incident occurred just days after the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to halt its operations in Rafah.

The slogan “All eyes on Rafah” has gained traction in western Europe, Australia, and India as a way to raise awareness about the ongoing war and the plight of the 1.5 million displaced Palestinians who have sought shelter in Rafah. These Palestinians were forced out of their homes following the Israel-Hamas war that began last year.

The origin of the slogan can be traced back to a comment made by Rick Peeperkorn, the director of the World Health Organization’s Office of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Peeperkorn stated that “all eyes are on Rafah” after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an evacuation plan for the city ahead of planned attacks on Hamas.

Despite global pleas and warnings from the United States, Israel launched an offensive on Rafah following a barrage of rockets fired by Hamas. The Israeli military claimed the attack was not intended to cause civilian casualties and called it a “tragic mishap.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s military continues its ground assault in the southern Gaza Strip, with reports of additional casualties in the al-Mawasi area west of Rafah. The Israeli army has denied any involvement in the airstrike that resulted in the deaths of 21 people in a humanitarian area.

The situation in Rafah remains tense, with the international community closely monitoring the developments and calling for an end to the violence and protection of civilian lives.
