Barnegat High School Students and Athletics Director Honored by Shore Conference and NJSIAA
BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat High School is celebrating the recent honors bestowed upon three students and the district’s athletics director by the Shore Conference and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) program.
During the annual Shore Conference awards ceremony on May 19 in Toms River, BHS’s John Germano was recognized as the 2023-2024 Ocean County Athletic Director of the Year. This prestigious award acknowledges outstanding leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to high school athletics in the region.
In a heartwarming twist, Germano’s daughter, Giana, was also recognized with a Shore Conference honor. Alongside Tyler Finkle, she received the conference’s Sportsmanship Award. Both students were nominated by BHS head coaches for their exceptional sportsmanship and leadership qualities in various varsity sports.
Senior Alyson Sojak also received recognition earlier in May when she was awarded the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award. This award is given to seniors who excel in NJSIAA varsity sports while maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrating outstanding school and community citizenship.
Barnegat Township School District Superintendent Brian Latwis expressed pride in the achievements of these students, noting that they reflect the dedication and spirit within the athletic community in Barnegat.
The Shore Conference, which includes high schools in Monmouth and Ocean counties in New Jersey, aims to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and excellence in high school athletics. The conference organizes and oversees interscholastic athletic competitions and activities for both boys and girls.
Overall, the recent accolades received by Barnegat High School students and staff highlight the commitment to excellence and values instilled within the school’s athletic programs.
