EU offers €250,000 in aid to support victims of devastating storm in Manipur | Breaking News from India

EU Provides €250,000 Aid to Victims of Severe Storm in Manipur

The European Union (EU) has stepped in to provide much-needed aid to the people of Manipur in India, who were severely affected by a hailstorm and heavy rain in early May. The EU has allocated €250,000 (over ₹2.26 crore) to assist more than 1,500 vulnerable families in the northeastern state.

The aid, which will be distributed by the EU’s humanitarian partner, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), will focus on providing food and emergency shelter kits to those most affected by the natural disaster. This support is crucial for helping communities cope with the aftermath of the storm, which caused extensive damage to over 48,000 houses, infrastructure projects, and agricultural lands across 16 districts in Manipur.

The hailstorm, which lasted 15 minutes and brought hailstones measuring four to five inches, resulted in major flooding in urban areas and widespread power outages. The EU’s assistance underscores its commitment to providing relief to those in need, both within Europe and around the world.

The funding for this initiative comes from the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operation (ECHO) department of the European Commission, which works to support victims of conflicts and disasters globally. The EU’s contribution to the recovery efforts in Manipur highlights the importance of international solidarity in times of crisis.

As one of the world’s leading donors of humanitarian aid, the EU continues to demonstrate its commitment to helping vulnerable populations in the face of adversity. The assistance provided to the people of Manipur serves as a testament to the EU’s dedication to supporting communities in need, wherever they may be.
