Cala Group Announces Progress in Reducing Carbon Footprint and Achieving Net Zero Goals
Cala Group Makes Strides Towards Net Zero Goals with Significant Reduction in Carbon Footprint
Cala Group, a leading housebuilder, has recently announced impressive progress in reducing its carbon footprint as part of its sustainability efforts. The company unveiled its annual audit of sustainability data for the 12 months ending on December 31, 2023, showcasing its commitment to achieving net zero goals by 2030.
One of the key highlights of the audit was the significant reduction in operational greenhouse gas emissions, with Cala Group achieving a 28.5% decrease in emissions compared to its 2021 baseline. This achievement is even more remarkable considering the increased building activity during the same period, with operational emissions per square meter of developed floor space falling by over 25%.
Kathryn Dapré, Head of Sustainability at Cala, expressed her excitement over the results, stating, “The results of our 2023 sustainability audit are incredibly encouraging. Exceeding expectations and making a big stride towards our 2030 net-zero goal demonstrates the commitment and hard work of our entire team.”
One of the key factors contributing to this success was Cala’s switch to HVO (hydro-treated vegetable oil), which led to a remarkable 57% reduction in site liquid fuel emissions, surpassing the company’s initial target by a significant margin. Moving forward, Cala plans to focus on reducing the full life cycle emissions of its homes by implementing improved building fabric options, adopting technologies like heat pumps and on-site renewables, and expanding the use of timber frame construction.
Kathryn emphasized the importance of innovation and continuous improvement in achieving sustainability goals, stating, “By continuing to innovate and challenge ourselves across the business, we’re confident we can achieve our sustainability goals and we look forward to continuing to report on Cala’s positive progress.”
