Controversy Erupts Over Shashi Tharoor’s Social Media Post on Uttar Pradesh Exams
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor sparked controversy with a social media post mocking examinations in Uttar Pradesh. The post, which featured an answersheet defining Uttar Pradesh as a state where answers are known before exams, drew sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Union minister Jitin Prasada condemned the post, stating that stereotyping the people of Uttar Pradesh in such a manner was deplorable. BJP spokesperson C R Kesavan labeled Tharoor a “repeat offender” and accused him of insulting the people of northeast in the past.
Former Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar and BJP leader Rajyavardhan Rathore also criticized Tharoor for his remarks, with the latter questioning why a person of Tharoor’s stature would mock an entire state.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at Tharoor in his signature ‘Tharoorian English,’ accusing him of indulging in satirizing various cultures with caustic words.
The backlash against Tharoor’s post highlights the ongoing political tensions between the Congress and the BJP, with both parties engaging in a war of words over the controversial social media post.
