Max Verstappen leads practice session despite causing red flag before Sprint Qualifying at Austrian GP

Austrian Grand Prix Practice: Verstappen Quickest Despite Red Flag

Max Verstappen showed his dominance in the only practice session at the Austrian Grand Prix, despite causing a red flag moment. The championship leader encountered a sensor issue with his engine, forcing him to stop on track halfway through the session. However, quick thinking from the Red Bull team and Verstappen himself allowed him to get back on track and ultimately top the timing sheets by 0.276s.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc followed closely behind Verstappen, showcasing a competitive field heading into the weekend. Lando Norris, who had shown promising pace earlier in the session, had to abort his lap after going wide at Turn Four and finished down in 13th.

Mercedes, who didn’t do a qualifying simulation, displayed strong form with Lewis Hamilton finishing in fifth place. The team’s early speed bodes well for their performance in the upcoming Sprint Qualifying session.

With the Sprint Qualifying session live on Sky Sports F1, the stage is set for an exciting weekend of racing at the Red Bull Ring. Stay tuned for more updates and analysis as the Austrian Grand Prix unfolds.
