Portmarnock Resort Completes Multi-Million Euro Renovation of Jameson Golf Links

Portmarnock Resort has recently unveiled the completion of a major renovation project on its rebranded Jameson Golf Links, marking the end of a two-year transformation that has elevated the championship golf course to new heights.

The highlight of the renovation is the revamped 17th hole, which has been transformed from a challenging par three into an exciting risk-and-reward par four. This change is just one of many modifications made to the course, including the elevation of tee boxes and greens to offer stunning panoramic views of north Dublin’s Velvet Strand and Ireland’s Eye.

Led by Northland Real Estate Properties and the Gagliardi family, who acquired the resort in 2019, the renovations were overseen by Jeff Lynch, director and senior architect at (re)GOLF. The rebranding of the course pays homage to the Jameson whiskey dynasty, highlighting the historical connection between the land, the clubhouse, and the famous Irish family.

With the addition of a lengthened penultimate hole and enhancements to landing areas and bunkering, the course now plays as a par 72, measuring 7,266 yards from the back tees. Despite being 100 yards longer, the course offers a more playable experience for golfers of all skill levels.

Paul McCanny, director of golf at Jameson Golf Links, expressed his excitement about the positive feedback received from members and guests regarding the changes made to the course. He praised the quality of work done by the design team and emphasized the goal of enhancing the golfing experience within the spectacular dunescape.

The majority of the renovation work focused on the final ten holes, with notable changes to the 12th and 14th holes, which have been redesigned as par fives. The course now offers a mix of challenging and scenic holes, providing a unique and memorable golfing experience for players.

Jeff Lynch of re(GOLF) design shared his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the team’s efforts to enhance the connection between golfers and the coastal landscape.
