Robert De Niro and Biden Campaign Mock Trump Outside Courthouse

Biden Campaign Sends Surrogates to Trump’s Trial for News Conference

The Biden campaign made a bold move by sending Robert De Niro and two former U.S. Capitol Police officers to hold a news conference outside the Manhattan courthouse where former President Donald J. Trump’s trial was concluding. Despite initially avoiding commentary on Trump’s criminal trial, the Biden campaign decided to emphasize the seriousness of the situation by dispatching these high-profile surrogates.

During the news conference, De Niro accused Trump of engaging in “coward’s violence” and directing the mob to do his bidding. While the focus was not directly on the trial itself, the speakers sought to draw attention to Trump’s actions leading up to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and other legal troubles he faces.

The Trump campaign quickly responded, criticizing the Biden campaign for turning the courthouse appearance into a campaign event. Senior adviser Jason Miller called De Niro a “washed-up actor” and accused the Biden team of making a political mockery of the criminal case.

Despite the backlash, the Biden campaign defended its decision to hold the news conference, citing the presence of the national news media at the courthouse as a reason for their appearance. The heated exchange between the two campaigns outside the courthouse highlighted the intense political divide surrounding Trump’s legal troubles and the ongoing fallout from the events of January 6.
