France and Germany Leaders Support Ukraine’s Right to Strike Inside Russia

France and Germany’s leaders have made a bold statement, declaring that Ukraine should be allowed to strike military sites inside Russia from which missiles are being fired at Ukrainian territory. However, they emphasized that Ukraine should not target other sites in Russia, especially civilian or other military locations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a warning to the West earlier in the day, cautioning that allowing Ukraine to use Western-supplied weapons to strike inside Russia could lead to a global conflict. Despite this, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stood firm in their support for Ukraine’s right to defend itself.

“We support Ukraine and we don’t want escalation, that hasn’t changed,” Macron stated during a joint news conference with Scholz in Meseberg, Germany. Scholz echoed Macron’s sentiments, emphasizing that as long as Ukraine adhered to the conditions set by the countries supplying the weapons and followed international law, it had the right to defend itself.

The debate over whether Ukraine should be allowed to strike inside Russia with Western weapons has sparked controversy within NATO and European countries. While some, like NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, support the idea, others, including the United States, have reservations.

In Germany, there is also resistance to the notion, with concerns about the potential for escalation into a broader conflict. Scholz has declined to provide Ukraine with Germany’s long-range Taurus missiles, which have the capability to reach Moscow.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the international community is closely watching the situation unfold, with the risk of a global war looming large. The decision on whether Ukraine should be allowed to strike inside Russia remains a contentious issue that will likely have far-reaching implications.
