Live General Election Results: Exit Poll Indicates Massive Labour Victory with Tories Facing Severe Defeat

Sunak heads to polling station to cast vote in general election

Rishi Sunak, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, was seen heading to a polling station to cast his vote in the general election. The atmosphere was tense as Labour was projected to secure one of the biggest Commons majorities in history, according to the official exit poll.

The exit poll indicated that Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Party was on track to win a staggering 410 seats, while Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives were expected to fall to just 131 seats. This would mark a significant decline from the 365 seats the Tories held five years ago under Boris Johnson’s leadership.

The Liberal Democrats were forecasted to win 61 seats, with Reform UK projected to secure 13 seats. The Green Party was expected to win 2 seats, the SNP 10, and Plaid Cymru 4. This landslide victory for Labour would give Sir Keir a 170-seat majority in parliament, coming close to Sir Tony Blair’s record of 179 in 1997.

As the results started to come in during the early hours, senior Conservative figures reacted to the exit poll. Former party leader William Hague described it as a “pretty catastrophic result,” while Ruth Davidson, former leader of the Scottish Tories, called it a “massacre.”

The outcome of the general election was shaping up to be a historic one, with high-profile Conservatives at risk of losing their seats. The mood was tense as the country awaited the final results that would determine the future direction of the UK’s political landscape.
