Marriott International is making a big splash in Detroit with the announcement of a new 25-story, 600-key JW Marriott on the city’s waterfront. The $397 million project, known as JW Marriott Water Square, is set to open in 2027 and will be developed by Detroit-based Sterling Group. The hotel will be located near the recently opened luxury apartment tower, The Residences at Water Square.
In other news, Trinity Investments is expanding its team in Europe with the appointment of several key leadership positions. Honolulu-based Trinity has named Mai Kawashima as vice president of acquisitions, George Austin as director of strategic operations, Elia Antonioudaki as vice president of development, and Andrea Hendrick as vice president of finance.
Artemis Hotel Group, based in Atlanta, has made a significant acquisition in Georgia with the purchase of the 124-key Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta-Galleria/Cumberland. The transaction was facilitated by Hunter Hotel Advisors and the price remains undisclosed.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is also making moves in Turkey with the opening of its first Dolce hotel in the country. The 155-key Dolce by Wyndham Çeşme Alaçatı is part of an expanded partnership with İzmir-based DRD Hotels. This marks Wyndham’s third hotel opening in Turkey, with more on the way.
