Yuka Saso Wins US Women’s Open for Second Time, Watch Scandinavian Mixed and Memorial Tournament Live on Sky Sports
Japan’s Yuka Saso Secures Second US Women’s Open Title
In a thrilling final round, Japan’s Yuka Saso emerged victorious at the US Women’s Open for the second time, finishing four under par and three shots ahead of compatriot Hinako Shibuno. Saso, who previously claimed the title in 2021, showcased her skill and determination throughout the tournament, ultimately securing a well-deserved win.
The competition was fierce, with Saso and Shibuno being the only players to finish under par, marking the fewest number of players under par in the Women’s Open in a decade. American Andrea Lee, who had held the overnight lead alongside Minjee Lee and Wichanee Meechai, finished in a tie for third place at even par, along with Ally Ewing.
Despite facing some challenges during the final round, including a four-putt for a double bogey, Saso remained focused and composed. She went on to make crucial birdies on the 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th holes to secure her victory.
Reflecting on her win, Saso expressed her gratitude for being able to represent both the Philippines and Japan through her golfing career. She made the decision to switch citizenship before turning 21, allowing her to honor both her mother’s Filipino heritage and her father’s Japanese roots.
“It feels great,” Saso shared. “Winning in 2021, I represented the Philippines and felt like I was able to give back to my mom. This year, I was able to represent Japan, and I think I was able to give back to my dad. It’s just a wonderful feeling that I was able to give back to my parents in the same way.”
Saso’s victory not only solidified her status as a top contender in women’s golf but also served as a personal triumph, proving to herself that she has what it takes to succeed at the highest level of the sport.
