Sugar & Rhyme Coffeehouse in downtown Elgin has been selected as one of 500 small businesses in the United States to receive a $10,000 grant from American Express and Main Street America. This grant is part of American Express’s “Backing Small” initiative, which aims to provide financial support and resources to small businesses facing economic challenges.
Located at 203 E. Chicago St., Sugar & Rhyme Coffeehouse opened its doors in 2023 and has quickly become a beloved spot in the community. The grant will undoubtedly help the coffeehouse continue to thrive and serve its loyal customers.

In other news, state Sen. Cristina Castro, D-Elgin, and Anderson Humane are teaming up to host a free pet wellness event at Elgin Community College on Saturday, July 20. The event will offer free basic care vaccines for cats and dogs on a first-come, first-served basis. No registration is required, and there is no limit on the number of pets per household.

Additionally, Geneva Park District is hosting a series of Concerts in the Park every Wednesday in July at River Park.
