Rapper Sean Kingston to be Extradited to Florida for Alleged Fraud and Theft
Popular rapper Sean Kingston has agreed to be extradited to Florida, where he and his mother are facing allegations of committing over $1 million in fraud and theft. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has accused Mr. Kingston, 34, and his mother Janice Turner, 61, of taking jewelry, money, a luxury car, and more in an alleged scheme to defraud several businesses.
Mr. Kingston signed paperwork waiving his right to challenge the extradition in a California court, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. It is not yet clear when he will return to Florida to face the charges.
The Jamaican-born singer, known for hits such as “Beautiful Girls” and “Fire Burning,” reportedly remains in a Southern California jail. California sheriff’s officials have stated that they will coordinate with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office on his extradition.
In addition to the allegations of fraud and theft, a separate lawsuit has been filed against Mr. Kingston by a company claiming he did not fully pay for a large TV and sound system. The company alleges that Mr. Kingston made false representations, including a promise to create promotional videos with Justin Bieber, in order to secure the products with a minimal downpayment.
Representatives for Mr. Kingston have been contacted for comment, but have not yet responded. Prior to his arrest, Mr. Kingston shared a statement on his Instagram account assuring his fans that he and his mother are doing well and that their lawyers are handling the situation.
A lawyer representing the pair has acknowledged the allegations and expressed confidence in a successful resolution in court. The case continues to develop as Mr. Kingston prepares to face the charges in Florida.
